journal #6

1. Accomplishments

Over the past few weeks i have been working on finalizing the cases i will be using for my research and lesson plans. I finally have chosen the 10 cases i will be using to implement into my lesson plan. i also have written short summaries on each of the cases. Aside from this i have created a calendar to demonstrate the schedule for when each case will be taught, essential questions for each week, and activities to do with the students.

2. challenges/getting stuck

I am having a difficult time putting everything together. It is a lot of work to compile and i find it difficult to make it one cohesive lesson plan curriculum instead of a lot of lessons.

3. next steps

i need to write each individual lesson plan. Now that i have all my research done, my calendar of cases and assignments created i can begin writing each lesson plan.

journal entry #3

1. accomplishments:

as i was writing my proposal and after doing some research i came to the conclusion that i will take the professor up on his offer that i can do my research in the form of a curriculum. Because I just switched over from a history major to a social studies ed. major i think this will fit my needs more. I will still keep the same topic, however, instead of focusin on abortion I will include other land mark court cases into the lesson plan.

2. challenges:

turning this research into a 9 week curriculum. I know what i need to do, i just need to make it into a cohesive lesson plan unit. I know where i can get primary sources from, which is great! but i will need to look further into secondary sources. Im thinking scholarly journals or magazines.

3. Next Steps:

Meet with professor landrum to finalize all details of how he would like for me to do the research for this.

intriguing controversies

Controversies have always surround the history of nations. It is what makes history intriguing and create debates in certain topics. I  have chosen the topics on same-sex marriage and abortion because they are two of the most hot topic issues surround the presidential election. These two topics are important because they impact a lot of people, not only for those who are pro these issues but also those who are against

refining my research questions

In an attempt to refine my research questions, this is what i have come up with.

these are my original questions

1. How has religion impacted the evolution of same-sex marriage in politics.

2. What role did women, religion, and politics have on the Supreme Court decision to uphold Roe v. Wade.

these are my original questions refined

1. Compare and contrast the evolution of same-sex marriage in politics during the 20th century to the current presidential election.

2. Honestly, i am having a difficult time refining this question.

I am pursuing these questions because i am fascinated with controversy. These two areas of controversy are intriguing topics and i enjoy reading and researching why people oppose or support them and how they have evolved and made their way into our history.

my research question

I have been thinking about a few controversies in US history that I can write my research on. Some issues that have crossed my mind, and are always of big controversy currently and in the past are abortion and same-sex marriage. These are just a draft, more elaborate questions to come.

1. How has religion impacted the evolution of same-sex marriage in politics.

2. What role did women, religion, and politics have on the Supreme Court decision to uphold Roe v. Wade.
